Moving to Las Vegas? Start with the right part of the valley
Moving to Las Vegas from somewhere else? We help you pick the right part of the valley first.
The first decision isn't the house
If you're relocating to Las Vegas, the biggest decision comes before you look at a single listing: where in the valley do you want to live? People think of Las Vegas as one city. It's really several cities and a string of very different communities, and the right one depends on your commute, your budget and how you like to spend a Saturday.
How we help people moving here
I'm Carrie Lu, REALTOR®, MBA, with Signature Real Estate Group, and my team and I have worked all over the valley since 2007. For someone moving in from elsewhere, we start by explaining the map, then narrow it down to a few places that fit.
Community videos are part of how we work, because showing a neighborhood beats describing it, especially when you're not here yet to drive around.
You'll also want to know how buying works in Nevada, since it may differ from where you're coming from. There's no attorney at closing here. Escrow and title handle it. The inspection window is called the due diligence period and is usually 10 days. Our buying page covers every step.
A quick tour of the valley
- Henderson is its own city, with its own mayor, city council and police. You can live by a lake, on a golf course, up in the foothills, or in a master-planned community like Inspirada.
- Summerlin is a huge master-planned community on the west side, against the Red Rock mountains. As we like to say, you get the Las Vegas lifestyle without feeling like you live in the middle of it.
- Southwest Las Vegas is where our office is. It's mostly 1990s homes, many on quarter-acre lots, with gated communities and big-box shopping nearby, about 20 minutes from the Strip along the 215.
- Centennial Hills in the far northwest is suburban, spacious and newer, with development still under way.
- Southern Highlands sits close to the I-15, which makes trips to and from California easy.
Planning a move from a distance
Moving from another state means timing a job start, a lease ending, or a sale back home. We'll help you plan around those dates, and we'll keep you updated by phone and text so you always know where things stand, wherever you are.
If you're also selling a home here, our how we sell page explains that side.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the best area of Las Vegas to move to?
It depends on your commute, budget and lifestyle. Henderson, Summerlin, the southwest and the northwest each feel very different. We start with how you want to live, then narrow it down.
Is buying a home in Nevada different from other states?
In some ways. Nevada doesn't require an attorney at closing, escrow and title handle it, and the inspection window is called the due diligence period, usually 10 days.
